Aimee LaPorte's exhibit opened with a bang-- literally-- the whole evening guests were being surprised (and occassionally upset) by the explosions of the Pulling Tricks that the Show's title refers. LaPorte's paintings are medium to large-scale colorful, textural, painterly works that often examine and comment on the juxtaposition and intersection of Eastern and Western cultures. Some works are interpreted Americana-- images of corporate identity and Amercian Idealism-- figurative displays conjuring notions of the sterotypical 1950's, but also with a reference to contemporary times. Other works involve Far Eastern tradition, custom, and fashion-- such as her Geisha series included in the show. As with the previous reception, INSEKT coordinated openings with the upstairs ONI gallery, again providing a wide assortment of characters and a large crowd out to see the dual event. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() For more information about the artwork or the artist, please contact Gallery Insekt via email, telephone, or mail.
