INDIA and NEPAL March - July 2001 Spinning the Prayer Wheels. Kagbeni, Nepal. 01 Mar 01 - 04 July 01. Departure from NYC, two days in Moscow en route to Delhi. Mathura, Vrindaban during Holi Festival. Agra and the Taj Mahal. Rajasthan- Jaipur, Jodphur, Pushkar, Udaipur, Jaisalmer: forts, camel safaris, temple hikes, holy lakes, scooter rides. Gujurat. Bombay. Goa. Two overnight trains to Varanasi. Sitar building and lessons; burning bodies and macabre boat rides on the Ganges. Overland to Kathmandu via Sonauli. Thamel, then three weeks on the Annapurna circuit, trekking, Thorung La pass at 5416m. Pokhara. Flight back to Varanasi's insanity and heat. Trains to Delhi, then Rishikesh. Intensive yoga study, swimming in the Ganga and more temple hikes. Delhi again by bus, train to Amritsar and the Sikh's Golden Temple. Bus to Pathankot, then Dharamsala. Meeting the Dalai Lama, rooftop stargazing, buddhist monk debates, beautiful nights and romantic rainy days. Return to Vrindaban, then a final ten days in Delhi. Vienna for two nights on the return.
